Installation Overview for your Custom Wood Gate
-
Gate is assembled. Hangs just like a door. You
need to attach the hinges and latch that we
include in your shipment. or use your own latch. Adding a caster is optional (why?)
Using a caster is optional but is helpful if dogs or kids will swing on the gate. We
predrill the caster holes for you.
-
Are one or both sides of the gate facing drywall or plaster?
If so, we provide wall planks (one per non-wood side). (why?)
Our wall planks are pre-drilled for placing on your wall where each gate will go. Each plank is the height
of your gate and three-quarter inches thick.
We provide long screws so you can anchor the plank into a wood or metal stud
behind your drywall. With plaster lath over brick, replace our wood screws with masonry screws of sufficient length.
Once
the plank is attached, you may hinge or latch to the plank. When hinging to a plank, your
gate will clear any baseboard, assuming it is not thicker than three quarters inches in depth.
-
Customer is responsible for hinging gate to
their doorframe, pilaster, newel post, or to the decorative plank
that we provide.
-
To mount the gate, hinges must
have flat area "to hinge to". Hinges must lie in a vertical plane,
or your gate will hang crooked. One face of the
hinge is screwed into your gate; the other to the
doorframe or other wooden structure.
-
You will require a drill, screwdriver, pencil to
mount these gates. A level or plumb line is also
helpful. We provide small blocks to place under the
gate to help you lift it off the ground, while you
mount the gate.
